In 1995 the wines presented here were still in wooden casks in the cellar and were bottled in 1995 (1984, 85 and 87) and in 1999 (1989, 90, 91). Antonio Cerri was not anymore able to do the bottling himself, hence we initiated this, in order to protect the unique heritage of this great vintner.
These wines were made without the use of modern technology and thus speak the language of times far gone. Even if from time to time one finds some technical incorrectness in the wines, they show the character and longevity of the wines from the hills of Boca. They benefit from being decanted and aerated at least a few hours before being poured into a glass.
In 2009 a very thorough article was published in Bibenda (the professional journal of AIS-the Italian Association of Sommeliers) about Boca including Armando Castagno’s vertical tasting notes of all the wines of Cerri. His tasting notes are attached below:

Boca vintage 1991
An aromatic nose still manages to unleash a considerable amount of freshness and depth. A slight hint of red fruits and hints of tobacco peep into the palate along with aromas of jam, chestnut, prune and an acid shoulder that conveys freshness and vitality. It is a relaxed, harmonious wine with lively, still flavours.
Boca vintage 1990
Evolved aromas of red fruits, noticeably oxidised, bring freshness accompanied by a mineral background. Lively, albeit advanced blackberries are accompanied by a background of liquorice and tobacco, almost caramelised and sweet. It is a very harmonious wine, presenting a beautiful elegance and a truly linear balance.
Boca vintage 1989
On the nose, one still perceives a beautiful freshness seasoned with notes, veiled, of red fruits. In the mouth, the call of red pulp fruits is still present thanks to an acidic vein that lends freshness. It is a wine with a lively, harmonious and delicate structure. It closes with a nice lengthening and a very linear direction. Refinement and elegance reserve a sweet retro touch.
Boca vintage 1985
An aromatically charged nose expresses a very direct, powerful and deep freshness; hints of spices, liquorice, red fruits and fresh cocoa are also evident. Precise, it is a wine that expresses a heart that is still beating, alive, energetic, with a truly sublime aromatic charge. A beautiful freshness supports a commendable lengthening always in the name of absolute elegance.
Boca vintage 1970
A nose that is still alive conveys aromas of medicinal herbs, small pastries, dried black fruits with a sweet but fresh finish, thanks to the acid shoulder, pleasantly awakening all the senses. It still possesses grit, stubbornness, structure, body, aromaticity and joie de vivre.
Boca 1961 vintage
Vegetable scents, still powerful, readily come on the nose, releasing freshness, followed by aromas of blackberries, cherries in spirit and viennoiseries. On the palate, it is suave thanks to subtle liquorice and harmonious red fruits that awaken the taste buds. Delicate, fresh, elegant, classy, surprising!
Boca vintage 1958
Aromatic nose, direct, with aromas of roses and fruit under spirits that emerge with vigour to conclude in hints of pastry. A note of caramel, of sultanas, accompanied by a pleasant fresh touch, testifies to a beautiful vivacity, energy and great length. It is a vital wine, lingering in the mouth with loving, expressive, delicate and energetic hints.
Boca vintage 1950
Still very expressive on the nose with notes of caramel, a background of oxidation, dried herbs and a sweet, enveloping finish. In the mouth, caramel and medicinal herbs, together with a pastry background, brighten up the palate. A wine with a vital, energetic soul, still capable of releasing a beautiful freshness through its acidic core. It is well-balanced, capable of balancing the aromatic soul with the elegant and incisive structure; it closes with an elongation that lingers with elegance. At a distance of 68 years, it manages to surprise with its nuances and beating heart.
Dedication to the terroir, respect, humility, passion for wine, experimentation, meticulous work and foresight have allowed Christoph Künzli to establish himself among the great producers not only in Italy, but also abroad; as Christoph himself states: "it becomes a commitment for me to produce wines that can best reflect the qualities of this ancient wine-growing area, wines that are unmistakable in their decisive character, concentrated, but - at the same time - of great elegance and finesse, complex in bouquet and taste, long-lived and that develop over time".
